David Weigel reports that the author of a new, unflattering book about Sarah Palin is
standing by his work. "Some of this stuff is so outrageous as to be unbelievable," he writes – accurately, no doubt. But, of course, the Palins won't refute the information in McGinniss' book; they'll just complain about it, and the lack of any effort to disprove the author's claims will only augment the book's influence. I'd hate to compare Obama to Palin, for the comparison is, ordinary, a fairly challenging one to make, but it could almost be considered a mistake of Obama's not to respond to the likes of Donald Trump earlier, so that they could be silenced. It seems like lowering oneself to even make any mention of such unfounded idiocy, but sometimes, in politics, it's best to put pride aside for a moment.
