This week:
The era of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the military’s ban on openly gay service members, will come to an end on Tuesday. And while supporters of the ban continue to warn of impending problems, advocates for open service are planning a host of celebratory events, ranging from book releases to film openings to gay service members going public with their identities.
Truly happy for all those affected by the end of DADT. It represents yet another signal of changing attitudes within the United States on issues such as this. Very pleased to see it. The strange thing about gay rights, it has been said many times before, is that homosexuals can be anyone's children; the burgeoning gay rights movement has truly come of age because of this basic principle, and it's not only good for America, but good for the rest of the world too.
