The founder of the Texas Innocence Project
takes on the governor's foolish hubris. Not only, though, is Perry's stance on the death penalty hubristic, it's also ignorant of the fact that we cannot be entirely certain of anything, and ignorant of the fact that the end of an individual's life
should require absolute certainty – something which we can never hope to attain, either in Texas or anywhere else. Although I happen to disagree with Michael Bloomberg on a number of issues (notably his initiatives with regard trans fats and smoking), I think his comments on the death penalty reflect my own rather well: "Lock them up and throw away key, but no death penalty." Indeed.
