Forgetting Reagan

Sally Kohn argues that the president so frequently toted by the right as an idol of conservative values would actually be considered a liberal by today's Tea Party standards. On immigration, for example, Reagan was supportive of efforts to give amnesty to undocumented immigrants, whereas today's ardent conservative groups appear to be of the opposite view entirely. Additionally, Reagan's stances on issues such as taxes, which he raised; weaponization, which he opposed; unions, of which he was a proponent and a leader; and social security, which he continued to support financially throughout his presidency. I'm not saying that he was a liberal, but by the provisional measure of a conservative, it's not a description without foundation. Earlier post on the matter here.
